Learning beyond the classroom: a day at Mosi-oa-Tunya national park
We are delighted to share a recent highlight from our student enrichment calendar: a successful and deeply engaging game drive excursion to the renowned Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park near Livingstone. This field trip was much more than a sightseeing tour; it was a powerful opportunity for our students to step away from their academic routine and experience the profound beauty and complex ecology of Zambia firsthand.
Nature's Classroom: From River Banks to the Bush
The day was structured to provide a comprehensive look at the park's diverse habitats. Our journey began with a tranquil drive along the Zambezi River banks, offering serene views and immediate lessons in observing the natural world. The students were captivated by sightings of hippos submerged in the cool water and crocodiles basking near the shore.
A feast of wildlife and a moment of awe
The sheer variety of wildlife encountered made for an unforgettable experience. Moving through the bush, our students were thrilled to spot herds of impalas and various antelope species, marvelling at their swift movements. Further on, they observed the magnificent sight of wildebeest and the elegant presence of giraffes grazing peacefully. While the sightings of many animals provided valuable understanding of the natural order, the most impactful moment was spotting a rare, newborn rhino calf nursing close to its mother.
Reflection, Relaxation, and Connection
The excursion was primarily designed to offer a necessary moment for reflection and relaxation following a long academic year marked by a rigorous work ethic. We are happy to report that the students were visibly engaged and genuinely happy, commenting that they "really got some relaxation" in the park's peaceful solitude
