This month, the Principal and Director of University Access visited Ashesi University in Accra, Ghana, one of Africa’s top ten universities, according to the Times Higher Education rankings. The visit was part of Crucible Lusaka’s continuing work to identify world-class university options for our students as they plan their academic journeys beyond A levels.

Ashesi University is widely recognised for its focus on STEM courses and its distinctive approach to education that combines technical excellence with strong ethical and leadership foundations.
Every student takes a Liberal Arts and Leadership course, mirroring Crucible Lusaka’s own belief that the ability to think critically, act ethically and lead with purpose is as important as academic knowledge itself.
The team learned about Ashesi’s unique Honour Code, a commitment to academic integrity and respectful social interactions that applies to both students and staff. The university also places great emphasis on connecting classroom learning with real-world application, preparing graduates who can use their knowledge to address challenges and drive progress across the continent.
Ashesi’s record speaks for itself: more than 90% of its graduates are employed within six months, and many go on to hold leadership roles in business, technology, and social innovation across Africa.
The visit reinforced Crucible Lusaka’s mission to develop pioneering leaders for a prosperous Zambia and underscored the importance of connecting our students to institutions that share our values of rigour, integrity and impact.
