From 7-10 September, our principal attended the HALI Indaba, a gathering of over 100 participants including member schools from across Africa, university representatives from the United States and Africa, and experienced college counsellors. The annual Indaba brings together educators who work with High Achieving, Low Income (HALI) students to share ideas, best practices, and opportunities for collaboration.

Across four days of discussion and workshops, sessions focused on university access, scholarships, the changing admissions landscape, mental health, supporting families, and developing curriculum to prepare students for international applications. Universities represented included Yale, African Leadership University, and other leading institutions, giving us valuable insights into the evolving opportunities available to our students.
Attending the Indaba is an important step in advancing Crucible Lusaka’s mission to prepare ambitious students to become pioneering leaders for a prosperous Zambia. The ideas, contacts, and networks developed at this event will help us better support our students as they navigate pathways to top universities, ensuring they are not only academically prepared but also personally supported.
The HALI community is a source of strength for schools like ours, and we are excited to bring the learning and connections from this year’s Indaba back to our classrooms, mentoring, and family engagement.
